Camp Activities

Brain Training

Your player spends hundreds of hours a year on the ice — building skills, plays, and memories. Underneath every one of those is the brain: the ability to lock in attention and hold it, make good decisions in a split second, control impulses, and keep emotions steady when the game gets tight.

This season we’re adding something new. Dr. Rebecca Jackson (aka DJ’s mom) will be conducting a Brain Health and Performance Baseline Evaluation with any interested players — measuring the brain functions that support the play: attention, memory, inhibitory control, response time, balance, and even how the eyes move and process information. From there, she and I will be building a few brain-based training elements into the season to level up both the play and the player. This evaluation is optional. Team exercises will be incorporated for the entire team, with additional brain training available as a monthly subscription (cancel anytime).

Every family will get a comprehensive picture of their own athlete’s strengths and opportunities. And because it’s a baseline, each player will have a personal reference point on record should they ever take a hit to the head.

We’ll walk through all of it Saturday morning at kickoff camp — Dr. Jackson will be there to meet with players and parents and answer questions.

Physical Performance Testing

The week before camp, players will be run through a series of performance evaluations conducted by ECU Physical Training to determine development and injury prevention opportunities. Learn more.
